The 'Cataclysmic Variable (CV) star' research group at the Department of Astronomy at UCT has been involved in a high-speed photometric survey of faint southern CVs using the 1.0-m and 1.9-m telescopes at the SAAO, in order to identify those objects that warrant detailed follow up studies with SALT. This survey has predominantly, although not exclusively, focused on southern classical novae, a class of CVs that had remained severely under-observed in the southern skies. Highlights from the UCT CCD CV survey will be presented, including the discovery of six eclipsing systems, eight intermediate polars (weakly magnetic systems), one probable polar (strongly magnetic systems), and two helium-transferring binaries.
