Pass the SALT, please! An update on the Southern African Large Telescope

SALT is well over half way through its construction phase, with on-sky tests due to begin late this year. This is South Africa's flagship project, valued at ~ $33M. It involves all aspects of modern technology, and can be truly said to be "proudly South African", with the majority of subsystem being built by South African industry. The talk will be mostly visual and will chronicle the project from its first ground breaking, in September 2000, to the present.
