Quantum Chromo dynamics (QCD) is by now the established quantum gauge field theory describing the strong interactions between quarks and gluons, responsible for hadronic physics. Unfortunately, so far it has not been possible to solve the theory analytically and exactly, mostly due to the intrinsic non-linearity of the QCD Lagrangian. Solutions at low energies (hadronic scales) are presently obtained numerically (lattice QCD), or through QCD sum rules, an approximate analytical method introduced 25 years ago. After an introduction to Quantum Field Theory, and the Standard Model of Particle Physics, a qualitative description of the QCD sum rule program will be presented.
