I will discuss the use of the Fabry-Perot interferometer for imaging spectroscopy in astronomy. Particular attention will be given to the Fabry-Perot system that is part of the Prime Focus Imaging Spectrograph (PFIS) for SALT. I will illustrate the sorts of applications for this instrument by a variety of research projects that my students and I have carried out with a previous Fabry-Perot system at the Cerro Tololo Observatory.
