Spiral galaxies are made of stars, gas and dust. The colour observed at a position in a galaxy shows us what is going on there, i.e., whether we have young or old stars, whether we have gas clouds and whether dust is present. I will describe how these things are related and what we can learn from colours in a spiral galaxy.
