Research is a fundamentally different activity compared to the exam
and memory-based format typical of early university life. It requires
new skills, new attitudes and new expectations of the graduate student
if they are to be successful, as well as the mastery of a new, more
detailed, knowledge domain. This combined pressure can cause a large
amount of stress and feelings of inadequacy and frustration. We will
present survival skills, highlight some must-dos, cover the kinds of
questions you should be asking  when selecting a thesis project and
supervisor and draw some lessons of what not to do from past students.
