Abstract:  The recent large galaxy redshift catalogs derived from SDSS
or 2dF provide comprehensive information about the large scale
structure in the nearby Universe. At the same time, state of the art
cosmological simulations have consolidated our knowledge on the
formation processes of these structures. Given the enormous amount
of data generated in either field statistical tools are the natural choice
to conduct a comparison between observations and simulations.
I will discuss how an extension of the traditional correlation
function can help to deepen our understanding of the large
scale structure of the Universe.
