Initial data problem in numerical relativity

Project: 
The process of generating initial data for many systems of interest in numerical relativity involves the solution of a set of coupled Elliptic Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). The starting point of this project will be to explore algorithms for solving coupled systems of elliptic PDEs. The goal will be to implement at least one such algorithm and use it to generate initial data for a binary black hole system. The next step will be evolving your initial data to simulate black hole collision in the context of numerical relativity.
