Mining ATLAS time-domain photometry to find binary central stars of planetary nebulae

Project: 
A large fraction of planetary nebulae are suspected to be formed from the interaction of a binary central star, however the number of known binaries remains modest at only about 50. A larger sample is needed to investigate population-wide trends in a robust manner. This project involves mining time-domain photometry from the ATLAS project to investigate already known binary central stars and would suit a student willing to learn how to tackle large data volumes by developing efficient methods and programs. If time allows the student may also search for new binaries in a small sample of planetary nebulae.
