Vibrating Neutron Stars

Project: 
This project involves the study of various aspects of Neutron star properties in general relativity. This involves the derivation of the TOV (Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff) equations governing static neutron stars in GR, followed by the oscillation equations, describing linear radial vibrations of neutron stars in GR. The second part of the project is numerical in nature and involves solving the TOV & Oscillation equations (which is of Sturm Liouville type) and producing the first few eigenfrequencies for a range of neutron star models. Lastly the project will look at how/why these eigenfrequencies and associated eigenfunctions are useful in Numerical Relativity applications.
