Can a MeerKAT detect dark matter?

You are here

Project Description:

The best gravitational evidence indicates that dark matter vastly outweighs the ordinary kind in our universe. Embarrassingly, we know nothing about dark matter except that it is dark and has mass. In this project we will explore our ability to search for dark matter indirect signals with MeerKAT. In this scenario dark matter annihilates or decays into particles that produce visible signatures. We can then use data from the MeerKAT Galaxy Cluster Legacy Survey to determine whether candidate signals of dark matter already exist, and if not, we can place limits on the allowed models of dark matter instead.
